I'm mostly following, but I think the part that is confusing me is how this continues to be an accumulation of retained earnings for the out years. For example, what you described above sounds to encompass both the current and prior years' retained earnings, but what about the second prior year? Where / how does that value get stored?
Below is an illustration of how the data flows from Net_Income to CYRE, and how Accumulated RE flows into PYRE.
This example would work if you have existing RE balances loaded, but cease loading once the calculations are configured. This means that if you are loading PYRE, you also cant be calculating it. This is where using the vary by time and scenario type would come into play. You will not want this calculating in periods that already have RE data because it could overwrite or overstate existing data, which would happen if a consolidation is ran and the formula is in Default Time. The below example would only run from Jan 2025 on.

Hey Ben - can you explain how this traditionally works with Dividends / other manual RE accounts? For example, we will continue to carry a balance in our Dividends account and adjust as needed. We also regularly have prior period adjustments that we book in the current year to retained earnings. Those would be captured in a separate "manual" RE account. I'm just wondering the best way to approach, as the calculated PYRE account would already include those balances so we'd be effectively double counting, wouldn't we?
Do not factor any of the manual accounts into the calculation by creating a parent like RE_Calculated that holds only calculated RE amounts only.
