Testing of changes for future periods

Over the past 2 year ends we have struggled in January close with certain data pulling forward correctly.  These issues stem from our set up of rules for pulling beginning balances related to Retained Earnings and some within our NCI .  Has anyone created a quality methodology for testing future periods.  What I'm thinking is if we only have data in January and maybe February to push that data all the way through December to see how the beginning balances will roll in January.
