Connect different OneStream SaaS deployments

Hi Folks,

We're just starting on a OneStream SaaS implementation to replace HFM.

We're far from the stage of actively working on any data integrations yet but I'm already starting to think about how things will hang together and how data will potentially flow in the future state of things.

Two of the downstream feeds that we currently receive in our HFM system are companies which are current users of OneStream SaaS. Just thinking at a very high level for now, does anyone know if there are any ways downstream systems could submit data to us without punching out to the internet e.g. using Azure Private Link service and staying within the Microsoft network (or some other networkey magic)?

High level pretty picture :)

Obviously we wouldn't be able to configure this ourselves as this is SaaS but I'm interested to hear if anyone else has any experience exploring this or anything similar with OneStream SaaS and if anything like this is even possible in the SaaS world.

Regards

Craig

  • To my knowledge, this is not possible for SaaS (but curious to see if I am wrong). For control purposes you can't just push data to a OneStream instance - data ingestion typically comes from pulling data into OneStream. The work around would be to just use web api's to transfer the data.

I recommend looking in to Cube Data Manager (located on the Solution Exchange) for a starting framework. This tool shows connecting 2 different SaaS instances (e.g. a DEV or PROD environment) for data exchange leveraging the OS REST web api and PAT (personal access tokens).

    Hi Craig,

Given that OneStream Server is hosted on Azure, I think the data transfer could happen entirely on Microsoft’s Azure backbone, after reaching the first Microsoft edge node with proper VNet routing or Private Link setup.

And BTW, thanks for the response 😉

      Hi Robb,

I was thinking pretty much the same myself, I'm sure that from a technical standpoint it would be doable, so I'm more wondering if it's possible with OneStream SaaS deployments instead of roll your own infra IaaS where you can set up all the intermediate plumbing yourselves.

JackLacava Hope you're doing well, I notice that you're on fire on the forum, have you got any ideas on this one from a OneStream POV? I'm just thinking at a very high level for now in terms of connectivity possibilities.

      Regards
