When scrolling through the Market Place and working with the solutions, there are actually a few that should be included in every application. In my opinion, these are the 7 must haves:

1. Excel Add-In Installer (PV430-SV100)

The OneStream Excel Add-in is a much-loved and frequently used extension to the platform. Financial users know how to work with Excel and can easily integrate data from your OneStream application in their reports, utilizing one-version-of-the-truth throughout the organization. However, the Excel add-in is a stand-alone installer that is included in the installation but not yet on your users’ local machine. To service the users and make sure everybody uses the appropriate version, there is a Market Place solution allowing your users to download the installer directly from OneStream.

After importing the solution, the Administrator can upload the required Excel Add-In version (and OneStream Studio if required) via the Settings page. After that, it is available for the users to download via the dashboard:

The only disadvantage is that it is quite a large file (128 Mb) so the download could take some time depending on the speed of your server and connection.

2. Standard System Reports (PV430-SV102)

The Standard System Reports contain a set of reports used for basic admin reporting, making the administrator duties easier. The following reports are available:

Application List List of applications for this environment
App Server Activity Review Graphically representation of Utilization and Processing time by type and module
Software Version Audit Report The software version of the application server by date
Security Activity Dashboard Graphical overview of logon activity in total and by module. Also added/deleted/updated users.
Archived Task Activity List of archived tasks

These reports do not appear in OnePlace-Dashboards, but under System-Dashboards since the reports are used by the Administrator. The solution can be imported via the Load/ Extract function. Please note that previous installed versions must be removed manually since they are not overwritten.

3. Standard Cube View Styles (PV410-SV100)

Cube Views are the main source for presenting the data to your users. Even though they are easy to set up, the possibilities in formatting are endless. To get a professional and consistent look and feel in your application, it is best practice to create and use Cube View styles. These are stylesheets that can be applied to the formatting of your Cube Views. To avoid work, OneStream has already created a set of pre-defined Cube View styles that can be downloaded from the Market Place.

After importing, the styles appear in a Dashboard Maintenance Unit to be used in your Cube Views:

4. Standard Application Reports (PV440-SV100)

The Standard Application Reports contain a standard set of reports, just like the System Reports. However, the reports in this solution are aimed at the user. There are 5 report categories available:

  • Application Analysis Intercompany Matching
  • Journal Detail
  • Transformation Rule Change
  • Workflow Status

The Standard Application Reports requires access to Ancillary tables, so that needs to be setup by your (technical) administrator or installation partner if that has not yet been done. After that you just import the zip file, open the dashboard where you can create the tables and launch the solution.

It’s best to start with the Reports Overview page, which shows you a description of each report available. Reports can be opened directly from the dashboard by selecting a report group and then the desired report.

There are many reports available, making this a solution that can be widely used. Often, a specific topic has multiple reports from a slightly different perspective or with an additional level of detail.

5. Default Map Templates (PV410-SV100)

This might look like a useless solution and indeed one of the smallest. However, I have found this very useful. If you’re loading data from source systems that data needs to be mapped (source format to target format). During testing or implementing new locations, you often want a quick-and-dirty mapping to test how the data comes through. This download contains Excel templates with ‘pass through’ mappings for all dimensions. The big advantage is that these mappings can be imported directly instead of typing it in.

6. Security Audit Report (PV430-SV102)

These standard reports provide insight in user-security and group information for audit purposes. In a production EPM system you want to audit your user access periodically. This Market Place solution offers reports that can be run over a specified period of time to be signed off by the authorized person as a solid basis for your security audit.

The dashboard already shows some high-level information. When selecting one of the items, the associated reports show in the main screen like below:

 7. Task Manager (UTM)

One of the most popular Market Place solutions is the Task Manager (UTM). UTM is a way to organize workflows inside and outside of OneStream. Why is this solution so popular? And how does it help you to get more out of your OneStream software? In our next two blogs, we’ll delve into the details of UTM. Can it live up to its fame?

Conclusion

All described solutions are really quickly configurable and therefore classify as plug and play (see my earlier post – Introduction to the OneStream Market Place about classifications). As you’ve probably noticed, I’ve not mentioned pros and cons per solution in this post, as I think these solutions should be included in every OneStream application. Aside from saving you time – a big plus in itself, they really help you to get more out of your OneStream platform.

I would add the Administrator Solution Tools (AST) to the list

It includes the Home Page Manager to set or change the startup dashboard of users, the Log Cleaner, the Business Rules Viewer to review and/or recover older business rules and member formulas, and the Member Formula Builder a tool to simplify member and drill down path formulas creation.
